New music from Billy Martin and Anthony Coleman
featuring the Black Elk Chamber Orchestra and percussion ensemble


Billy Martin's african thumb piano music (from his Black Elk Speaks CD) has been orchestrated by Anthony Coleman for a 10 piece chamber orchestra (string quartet, oboe, clarinet/sax, french horn, trombone, trumpet and flute). The Black Elk Chamber Orchestra personnel is Jennifer Choi: violin, Jill Jaffe: viola, Okkyung Lee: cello, Trevor Dunn: bass, Alexandra Knoll: oboe, Doug Weiselman: clarinet,soprano sax., Vincent Chancey: french horn, Charles Porter: trumpet and Helen Campo: flute, conducted by Anthony Coleman.
Billy Martin will lead various configurations of percussionists for his work-in-progress "Stridulations"
Some percussion instruments featured: bamboo, temple blocks, bottles, balaphones and more...

Enhance Your Inner Cricket: rhythm classes with Billy Martin


Class dates:
March 4th and 18th


Ages 12-and-up. All materials will be provided. $20. (75 mins., 20 persons max.)

Billy Martin will be conducting classes that focus on creative rhythmic interplay and collective improvising. Reading material will be provided based on his Stridulations (miniature percussion compositions for bamboo and woodblocks). No previous musical reading experience required. ANYONE can read this simple notation. Great for all musicians, bands, dancers, and anyone else that may be interested in rhythm.
